un marine di 21 anni si è addormentato su un divano di una famiglia di Nago che non conosceva
al risveglio ha detto che non ricordava niente
la polizia aveva ricevuto una telefonata di una donna che diceva che un estraneo dormiva sul suo divano

Another U.S. Marine is suspected of committing a crime in Okinawa Prefecture as Japan is stepping up calls for the United States to toughen discipline on its military personnel stationed there, Japanese investigative sources said Tuesday.
U.S. military authorities have detained the Marine in his 20s who is suspected of counterfeiting dozens of $20 notes and passing some of them in Okinawa, the sources said.
Under the Japan-U.S. Status-of-Forces agreement, Japanese authorities will take over custody of the Marine after Japanese prosecutors file an indictment against him. Local police plan to soon send papers on him to prosecutors.
The suspect allegedly used a personal computer and a printer to copy the dollar notes and passed some of the counterfeit ones in Uruma, southern Okinawa Island.

The serviceman, who belongs to the air base, allegedly grabbed the 19-year-old woman from behind on a street in Hachinohe, about 600 kilometers north of Tokyo, at around 3:45 a.m. Friday.

A bilateral agreement took effect Thursday obliging Japan to pay some ¥140 billion a year to support U.S. military bases through fiscal 2010, the Foreign Ministry said.
Implementation of the accord came a month after the previous pact expired March 31 due to a delay in the Diet.
The Special Measures Agreement came into effect after the U.S. and Japan concluded an exchange of notes earlier in the day.
The opposition-dominated House of Councilors rejected extending the accord in late April as the opposition camp complained that some of the money assigned to maintain the bases had been used to hire employees for entertainment facilities such as bars and bowling alleys.
But the accord, which had cleared the House of Representatives in early April, nevertheless cleared the Diet and went into effect as decisions on treaties by the more powerful Lower House take precedence under the Constitution.

A fire bomb is thrown into the garden of the US Consulate General compound in Japan's southern island of Okinawa, Japanese police say.
A Molotov cocktail was thrown in the garden and burned itself out in the early hours of Monday, said Okinawan police official Yasuhiko Yoshinaga. No one was injured in the attack. The police was alerted about the attack by a local resident who told authorities that a person driving a black motorbike fled the scene after the attack, AP reported.
More than 25,000 US troops are based in Okinawa which is located 1,600 kilometers (1,000 miles) south of Tokyo. On Saturday, over 13,000 Japanese rallied against the permanent basing of a nuclear-powered US warship near Tokyo. The incident was the second attack on a US consulate in six days. On Wednesday, four armed men attacked the US consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.
The four drove to the entrance of the heavily fortified US consulate where three of them emerged from the vehicle and opened fire on a police post in front of the complex. Three gunmen and three policemen died in the crossfire but the fourth attacker managed to drive off the scene.

Il sottomarino americano USS Houston ha perso per mesi acqua con tracce di radioattività nel corso di una crociera nel Pacifico che lo ha visto toccare porti a Guam, in Giappone e nelle Hawaii. Lo riferisce la Cnn citando fonti della Us Navy. La perdita è stata scoperta il mese scorso a Pearl Harbor, dove il sottomarino si era portato per le operazioni di revisione di routine. Secondo la Marina statunitense i livelli di radioattività dispersi nel mare sono "virtualmente ineditificabili". Tuttavia è stato avvisato il governo nipponico perché l'unità ha sostato più volte in Giappone. L'incidente appare dovuto a una valvola difettosa.

In Tokyo, Japan's Foreign Ministry said Saturday it was notified by the Navy that the radiation has ''no effects on the environment and human bodies,'' with a senior Japanese official saying it is ''not a level that should be deemed problematic.''
The ministry, however, came under fire for not disclosing the information sooner after the U.S. government notified it about the leak Friday afternoon in Japan.
The ministry did not communicate it to the concerned local governments because ''we judged there was no need to immediately report it since it would not have any impact on humans,'' an official said.
The ministry reported Saturday morning to Sasebo city, Nagasaki Prefecture and Okinawa Prefecture, where U.S. warships make frequent port calls, after the CNN report, but added that the ministry's notifications to the local governments have nothing to do with the media report.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura said of the delay that it is ''indeed not good that a media report came earlier.''
''I believe the Foreign Ministry should report a matter of this kind immediately to the prime minister's office and make it public when it is notified by the U.S. government, because it concerns 'radioactivity,''' Machimura said.
Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura told a news conference that a delay in reporting is ''inadmissible.'' ''I, too, came to know about it this morning on television.''
Municipal officials in the southwestern port city of Sasebo on Saturday scrambled to gather information, while some residents voiced anger following the media report.

Defense Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said Wednesday that he and Nago Mayor Yoshikazu Shimabukuro agreed to deepen discussions about a contentious plan to relocate the U.S. Marine Corps' Futemma Air Station within Okinawa Prefecture despite the big gaps between them.
''I told the mayor it is hard to meet Nago's request (on the issue) without reasonable grounds but I want relevant people to hold thorough discussions in working-level sessions,'' Hayashi told reporters.

The Japan Coast Guard on Thursday called off its joint search with the Maritime Self-Defense Force and others for a yacht with four Americans on board off Okinawa as they have not been able to find anything with links to the vessel or its crew, coast guard officials said.
The coast guard will henceforth continue its search for the 20-meter Jade Princess within the scope of its regular patrol activities, the officials said.
