The oldest woman is a 114-year-old resident of Okinawa Prefecture, whose name has been withheld due to her family's request, while the oldest man is Jiroemon Kimura, 112, who lives in Kyotango, Kyoto Prefecture.
The pace of increase has accelerated since the survey began in 1963, as the number will exceed 40,000 only in two years since topping the 30,000
line in 2007, which was four years after it marked 20,000 in 2003, five
years from seeing 10,000 in 1998.
